Harvesters - Alien Bugs

I bought 2 of these boxes for myself to use in some skirmish games. The large bugs need very large bases, I believe one i built sits comfortably on a 60mm base...problem is I am using them as line troops. The sculpts are great and as another reviewer said, not super beginner friendly, that said...there are some fun things to do with these kits...I made a 6 legged bug using 4 short back legs and two long front legs, I made a bug centaur with some sprue goo and essentially two bugs. The sculpts are cool for sure, I just wish there were more variety of bugs, like the real bug bugs, the single bugs, and some intermediate sized bugs, something that could comfortably sit on a 28mm base, I think I can carve up some legs and make a small 4 blade legged critter with two oversized cutting arms. All in all not a bad kit by any means, just wish there was more suze variety.

Much like the fantasy spiders set, the Harvesters are a more complex model kit. You’re going to need some patience, and a good amount of blue tack for dry fitting. They’re worth the work though, as they are beautiful models! Just don’t expect the same level of simplicity you get from allot of the other WGA kits.

My mom would allow me these for me as a birthday present when they were on pre-order. But by now, they're very late in finally getting released and so wound up being a belated present. I understand that life happens when trying to get kits released but a more accurate release date would have been useful. Now that it's released, I imagine this wouldn't be a problem I've never had another WGA product that's in stock arrive late.

The kit itself I have somewhat fair, & mixed feelings about. I like the inclusion of the small bugs and alien eggs; it has some cool detail. The design of the big bugs is cool except the number of legs seems wrong to me. Just one man's opinion but I've never seen a two-legged bug before. Also, if only you give them the ranged weapon it looks awkward. Admittedly four to six limbs would make them a not so difficult build, so I guess it's a tradeoff. I just converted mine to have six limbs instead of four.

Other than the number of legs I like the design. If I have not painted mine yet, but they look like they will take contrast/speed paint well. Not sure yet I would recommend this box of bugs but if you like the sculpts the product is still high quality as per usual, then give it a shot, just like the fantasy spiders with those ray guns, combine them all together and you got yourself a spooky Bug Army, all that's missing is a Gigantic Bug Queen.

Once you figure out that the larger joints are rear legs, and the smaller ones the find, it's easy enough to put these into really dynamic and characterful poses. They paint up really well, let your creativity flow and they'll be the nastiest thing on your table.
